Do’s and Don’ts - Double Cleanse Guide!

Double Cleansing is nice and straight forward; two simple steps to help wash away the day. So, we’ve put together an easy do’s and don’ts list with all our best tips to help you get the most out of your double cleanse routine!

Do:

Wash your hands first! The whole point of double cleansing is to clean your skin, so starting off with clean hands makes a lot of sense.

Work the formula into the skin gently, especially around the eyes. Cleansing formulas are designed to cleanse, so you don’t need to overdo it with pressure, let them do the work!

Use a small amount of product. You often need less than you think, so start small and you can always use more if you need. This will help your products last longer too, so it’s a win-win.

Pick a formula that suits you. The second cleanse is a great opportunity to start treating your skin concerns, maybe with brightening ingredients for tackling pigmentation or a beautiful hydrating formula like the GunkOff Hydrating Gel Cleanser

Follow up with your fave skincare routine! Freshly cleansed skin is ready to absorb all the goodness of your favourite serums and moisturisers.

Don’t:

Use the same wash cloth over and over again. If you think about it, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to use a cloth to help remove makeup one night and then use it again, wiping the gunk all over your face again.

Cleanse more than twice a day. For most people, an AM and PM cleanse is absolutely enough and you really only need the full double cleanse in the evening. Over-cleansing can lead to that stripped, dry skin feeling, which I know none of us want.

Use very hot water. Really hot water can dry out the skin or even compromise the skin barrier, meaning it could lose more moisture. Go for lukewarm water instead and if you’re cleansing in the shower, don’t tilt your face towards the shower head as the pressure can be a bit much.

Forget your neck and dec. You should be applying your skincare and SPF down your neck and décolletage anyway, so it only makes sense that you also need to cleanse them off.

Rush it! Enjoy the experience - cleansing can be a great ritual and really enjoyable way to start your skincare routine. Take it as a moment of self care, pausing to remove not only your makeup but also the day.
