GunkOff Hydrating Gel Cleanser

Love the sound of our new Hydrating Gel Cleanser but not sure how a cleanser can be hydrating? We’ve broken down exactly what’s in the formula and why your skin is going to love it!

When you’re thinking of your Double Cleanse routine, your first cleanse is great for removing all the gunk and your second cleanser comes in to help remove anything that’s left, as well as work towards your skin concerns.

A hydrating cleanser keeps the skin moisturised and prevents dryness; meaning you go into the rest of your routine with soft, happy skin – none of that tight feeling around here!

So, what exactly have we put into this formula?

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is basically the face of hydration in the skincare world – we’ve all heard about it and probably use it already in one or more steps of your routine. It works in a cleanser formula because it delivers hydration in a way that’s compatible with all skin types. It’s non-comedogenic, so it won’t cause issues for more combination or oily types and delivers hydration to those with drier skin. If you didn’t already know, hyaluronic acid works primarily by attracting and binding to water molecules, which increases the water content of the skin. This plumps out the skin and can increase the stretch and flex of the skin, which looks like bouncier, more smooth skin.

Niacinamide

Also known as vitamin B3, niacinamide is an anti-oxidant that helps provide a range of benefits to the skin. It’s best known for visibly reducing the appearance of enlarged pores and improving skin tone. However, it can also boost the strength of the skin barrier, protect against the effects of environmental stressors and protect against water loss. Yep, it really does a lot! It’s also well tolerated by all skin types and works incredibly well in a cleanser format.

Cucumber

Why cucumber? Because it’s mildly astringent to assist in clearing out dead skin cells to reduce breakouts, whilst still having a natural soothing and cooling effect. Those with acne-prone skin can benefit from its ability to unclog pores and more sensitive or irritated skin types can find it comforting. If you’ve smelled the Hydrating Gel Cleanser, then you may have noticed a delicate cucumber scent – don’t worry, it’s not added fragrance. Cucumber actually contains some fragrance components that are non-sensitising to the skin, so you get that natural fresh smell without irritation.

Aloe Vera

Best known for its use in after sun products, aloe vera is also a widely used skincare ingredient – you’re probably even using it already without knowing! Alongside being soothing to the skin, aloe vera has anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. What this can mean for your skin is accelerated wound healing, a softer and smoother texture and reduced redness. It can also help to treat pimples and protect against future breakouts. In real terms, it contributes to that soothed and refreshed feeling you get after using the cleanser.

Glycerin

Glycerin is naturally occurring in the skin, which means its compatible with all skin types and works to restore the skin to a normal balance. It’s a master hydrator, because of its humectant properties; meaning that it pulls moisture from the air and into the skin. This helps with the prevention of trans epidermal water loss from the skin, strengthening the skin barrier. Another reason it works well in your cleansing step, is because it can enhance the penetration of other skincare products, like your beautiful serums!

Each ingredient has been carefully chosen for the hydrating benefits they can offer your skin, all while keeping the formula minimal and suitable for all skin types. GunkOff really has your back when it comes to building an effective, yet hydrating and supportive cleansing routine.
